Announcement

Finally done

I’m happy to report that after an entire decade as a graduate student (albeit part-time, while doing many other things as well), I have finally submitted my thesis and will be defending it on March 26. This means that I will finally have my PhD and will be allowed to wear long trousers. And possibly even get a permanent university position. For more verbose discussion, see my blog. Now I get to work on lots of projects at once. Stay tuned…

New site: cendipede.org

As part of my dissertation project, I have created a new website: cendipede.org. My thesis presents a theoretical framework for studying word meaning through syntagmatic relations, called the Corpus-Derived Profiles framework. This framework is designed to be implemented computationally, and I have written a program, CenDiPede, which is an implementation of it in Java. It’s still in alpha stage, and therefore not yet publicly available, but when it’s done, I will distribute both the program and the source code freely at cendipede.org.

Moving to Stockholm

I realize that I hardly ever post news on this site. It’s not that I don’t want you to know things, but just that I’m so busy these days. But it’s high time for me to post some significant news: Annelie and I have bought a flat in Stockholm and will be moving there in mid-June. Yes, after two years in Härnösand, we’re moving to the big city, which is actually still one of the smallest cities I’ve lived in. Stockholm seems like it may be a very good place for us. Let’s hope so! I’ll try to sum up my Härnösand experiences on the blog, so check back there for updates. Now off to pack!

More photos going up

I’m finally getting some new photos added to my gallery. The latest are photos from my May trip to Switzerland, and soon will come pictures of Spain.

My blog is also seeing some activity, so feel free to stop by and leave a comment. (See above for links to both photos and blog).

New writing site

As part of my job teaching writing to Swedish university students, I have created a new website: Gregory’s Writing Site. This features a collection of guidelines to help advanced learners of English write better. If you’re interested, feel free to take a look.

Not much going on here, but try Over Here

It is probably fairly apparent that there’s not much new here on the main site right now, but I have been adding steadily to my blog (see top of page), so that’s where the action is right now. I’ll try to put up a bunch of new pictures soon.

More pictures: Summer in Härnösand

I’ve put up some pictures of Härnösand in my photo gallery, so now you can see what the town looks like. I’ve also started describing life here in my blog. Links to both are at the very top of the page. Enjoy!

More content, including a Tips section

I’ve restored to this site much of the content it had before the overhaul, so now you can read more about me and what I do.

More interestingly, however, I have also added a Tips section. I would like to use this as a little swap-shop of advice on various topics. I’ll keep adding tips on different topics as I think of them, and I encourage others to send me other tips to add. I promise that you’ll get credit for your submissions.

Welcome to the new garretson.info site!

I've reimplemented my website using a content-management system called Drupal. This should make it easier for me to add content, which will make it a better and more interesting place.

I am, however, continuing to use WordPress for my blog, "Over Here", since WordPress is much better for blogging. See the top of the page for a link to the blog. There's also a link there to my photo gallery.

See the links at left for other site content. Note that if you want to, you can create a member profile and log in, which gives you certain privileges, such as posting comments. Give it a try!
