Gregory's Reference Checker: Help

Are you trying to steal my paper?

Some people have indicated that they are nervous about uploading their paper to someone's website. While this is understandable, I assure you that if you use the Reference Checker, I will not steal or in any other way use your paper. Of course, I can't prove this, so you have to trust me. We thus have a circular problem. It doesn't matter at all to me whether you use this free service, but I don't like to encourage paranoia. So if you're on the fence, consider the following points.

First of all, do you think I would steal your paper and publish it under my own name? That would mean that (a) I'm not only dastardly but also very stupid, (b) I'm interested in the same research topics as you, and (c) you have an awfully high opinion of your own work.

Second, do you think I would steal your paper and sell it to someone? Please note that I am a teacher, and as such, I'm on the other side of that business--I try to stop plagiarism, not encourage it. See also point (c) above.

Third, do you think I am conducting secret and illegal research on people's writing? If I did that, I would never be able to publish it. So why would I?

Lastly, perhaps you are afraid that the US governent is intercepting all of your uploads, and that George Bush will come after you once he sees what you've written. While I can't guarantee that that isn't happening, I rather doubt it. Of course, you would be in the best position to know whether your writing could get you classified as part of the Axis of Evil.

So those are some points to consider. Let me reiterate that this is a free service offered for the good of everyone, and it doesn't matter to me whether you use it or not. But if you do, I hope you will find it useful. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
